I happened to run into this box set on amazon, and thought I would pick it up and check it out. I was skeptical at first because I tend to stick with purely vampire or shifter books and didn't really know anything at all about "mage" characters, I am happy to say I am so glad I got this bundle. What a fantastic and extremely entertaining series! I am hooked! Ms. Dark has weaved together a fantastic world of paranormal and fantasy, both in setting and characters. I found myself falling in love over and over with each character she brought to life in these books and that is not easily done. She also had me really hating the bad guys, talk about pulling a myriad of emotions simply by telling a story. I am eager to continue on with this series and any other series she may ever write, wonderful story telling and just as wonderful characters. These books aren't necessarily fast paced but by golly there is always something going on keeping you turning pages waiting to see what happens next. What a wonderful find!! Recommend this series to all who love the paranormal world with a splash of romance tied in!
Ms. Dark has made me into a lifetime fan of reading all her books!!

I'm a big fan of Dannika Dark's Crossbreed books, a spin off of this series, and by big fan I mean obsessed. I bought this quite a while ago but hadn't started it as I continue to reread Crossbreed. I finally decided to start this and didn't put it down for three days until I'd finished it. Talk about bang for your buck. Each book has had something different to offer and I love that I've been able to devour so much of the story in one go through a boxset. The Mageri series draws the reader into an urban fantasy world that the author has carefully created. The main characters consist of several types of 'breed' including some of the authors own creation. There's mage, vampires, chitahs, sensors, relics and gemini all spun into a contemporary setting that has left me wanting more and have Dark's particular spin and flavour on them.

Sterling starts with Zoe being violently attacked one night on her way home from a night out with a girlfriend. She feels different, but has no idea what has happened, only that she died and woke up with a completely different appearance and something feeling not quite right. She is taken in by the gorgeous Adam who cares for her when she has no one and nowhere to go. As she adapts to her new life, a chance encounter with the edible Justus changes her life forever. The book focuses on Zoe getting to know herself and the direction in which her life must now go as she is found by her Creator, an evil man intent on gaining control of her and using her for his own ill-intent. She is introduced to the Council and the Mageri, governing bodies in the mage world who will have the ultimate say on whether she is to be abandoned to her cruel Creator or Justus, the man who will train and guide her.

Books 2 and 3 focus on Silver (formerly Zoe) continuing to understand who she now is and what her powers are. I won't spoil anything, but there is intrigue, action, conspiracies and drama aplenty as a powerful and mostly unknown group threaten the carefully constructed world of the Mageri and strive to bring it to its knees. Silver has a penchant for trouble and this keeps the books running along at a great pace that keeps your interest. While it is a little predictable in places, the world the author immerses you in is well-crafted and entertaining. A firm love interest is introduced in the second book and I loved this as his character is a great addition to Silver's life. The supporting characters are strong and there is mystery, suspense and humour throughout. Silver is a great character on her own. She's sassy, strong and stubborn and I felt as if I was travelling along on her journey with her. It's mostly told from her point of view, but there are a couple of other POVs thrown in that add a different dimension to the book. There are plenty of heartfelt moments dispersed through the books as Silver struggles with her journey. I love how this author portrays the humanity in her supernatural characters. There's no cliche of the lead character suddenly being an expert at her powers or being the most powerful of the lot, but a more raw, real feeling to them as they struggle with their own faults and flaws.

This is a super cost-effective buy that pulls you straight into the series. If you're a fan of this author, you'll love it. I'm just kicking myself for waiting this long. For Crossbreed fans, it takes nothing away from it as it is almost completely separate, but it's really enhanced the other series by giving me a greater understanding of the different breeds that are sometimes glossed over in Crossbreed. They're really explained and described in this boxset. Oh, and having extra run ins with the delicious Christian Poe never hurts either ) So far, I've loved it. This will be going into my Favourites folder and I've already purchased the next book in the series that I'll be starting as soon as I click submit on this review. Dannika Dark is a goddess.

I am glad I got these books a set and I wish they would come out with a complete box set for all five of the Mageri Series. I bought them all and just didn't stop until I got through Shine (book 5). It's hard to separate what happened in each book since each book starts exactly where the previous one left off (LOVE THAT!).

Now there's too much to go into to provide a summary for these books, and that's best left to the professionals, which I'm sure you can read for yourself. For me, watching Zoe become Silver was the journey. This book is about a strong female faced with an unfortunate (or fortunate) circumstance that changed her life forever. Now we're not talking about you best friend getting married or finding your husband cheating on you. No! We're talking about some guy following you, murdering you (though, you live...well kind of), and being given powers that also grant you eternal life. Oh yeah, and you'll go through all this without a guild or an explanation. Never mind that you know nothing of the paranormal or that this other world exists within our own where there are mage, shifters, vampires, sensors, cheetahs, and anything else. Sounds unbelievable - but I promise you once you read it you'll completely buy into it. Dannika Dark has written this beautifully and I literally found myself driving around after reading these books and saying "It could totally happen - hell it probably is happening!"

These books are full of strong supporting characters that I found myself caring about just as much as I cared about Zoe/Silver and Logan which are the main characters for the five books (though we don't meet Logan until book two). There is not one single character that I did not like! I think that Dannika should receive some sort of award for bring in all the drama, rebuilding a paranormal world, making us fall in love, and knowing her different characters inside and out in such a concise and limited space of a few hundred pages for each book. Read these books!!

This story is full of characters that make you laugh and cry and feel as if they are real. Can't wait to read the next one.
